#AndSheCycles Ambassadors from Mungret Community College at their training event in Portlaoise
TEENAGE girls from schools across Limerick have joined 134 students nationwide taking part in the #AndSheCycles Ambassador Programme.
The initiative is aimed at empowering young women to make cycling more accessible and inclusive.
Launched in 2019, the #AndSheCycles campaign gives teenage girls a platform to explore and challenge the barriers preventing them from cycling to school.

The first national gathering of this year’s ambassadors took place in Portlaoise, where 91 participants attended a day of workshops and training sessions focused on leadership, communication, and campaigning.
The remaining ambassadors, including those from Limerick, took part in regional training events held around the country.
The programme, run by Green-Schools Travel, aims to build confidence and leadership skills while encouraging participants to become advocates for better cycling infrastructure and inclusion.
“This training marks a major milestone for the #AndSheCycles Ambassador Programme,” said Allison Phillips, Programme Manager of Green-Schools Travel.
“These ambassadors are passionate about changing the narrative around cycling for teenage girls. They’re stepping up as leaders in their schools and communities to make cycling more inclusive, visible, and empowering.”
The #AndSheCycles movement continues to grow as a powerful force for gender equality in active travel, inspiring girls across Ireland and here in Limerick, to take to their bikes and be celebrated while doing so.
This year’s ambassadors, representing communities across Limerick, Dublin, Meath, Clare, Galway, Laois, Kilkenny, and Carlow, will now work within their schools and local areas to promote cycling as a safe, visible, and viable option for young women.
With Limerick students leading the charge, the #AndSheCycles movement continues to pave the way for a more inclusive and sustainable cycling culture across Ireland.
