MID-WEST Sustainability Week 2025 has wrapped up for this year, following four days of events, learning and collaboration between industry leaders and sustainability experts.

The week brought together 31 sustainability leaders representing 25 different companies.

This year’s programme attracted strong regional and national attendance and highlighted the practical and strategic pathways businesses are taking to embed sustainability into their operations.

The week, September 22-25, featured nine events, including a day-long conference as well as a concluding conference held in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Limerick.

Topics explored throughout the week included business decarbonise, insights into electrification in heat, transport, the road to net zero, sessions on ESG reporting, smarter commuting, harnessing natural resources, and tours of local sustainable initiatives in Ei Electronics and Britvic Ireland, Newcastle West.

The concluding conference, brought together senior leaders from across sectors who shared insights into aligning sustainability with organisational strategy, culture, and performance.

A central message echoed across all sessions was sustainability is not only an environmental imperative but also an economic one.

Energy efficiency drives cost savings, waste reduction reduces risk, and strong ESG performance can unlock investment opportunities and improve market access and reputation.

The conference theme of Developing a Sustainability Mindset, was addressed by keynote speaker Gary Keegan, renowned high-performance expert.

Drawing on his experience coaching Olympic and elite teams, as well as advising corporate leaders, Gary said, “Clear intention, shared purpose, and an adaptive culture are essential for team and organisational success.

“Purpose-driven organisations must continually realign, adapt, and reflect to sustain high performance,” Keegan concluded.

Reflecting on the impact of Sustainability Week, Shannon Chamber CEO Helen Downes said, “It’s important to remind ourselves that progress comes from small steps done well. We learnt so much from the 31 panellists who are driving meaningful change within their organisations.

“We learnt how they are shifting mindsets, building internal momentum, and embedding sustainability into the core of their business cultures,” added Helen.

Organised by the Mid-West Sustainability Network, the annual initiative continues to grow in ambition and impact since its launch in 2023.
