A SERIES of community climate action events are taking place in Limerick for individuals and groups to pitch their ideas on how to secure funds and improve their areas.

Limerick City and County Council are launching a Community Climate Action Programme and are hosting a number of events in different locations across the city and county.

From June 12, the first session will take place in Newcastle West Library and the next day, Friday, June 13, there will be one in Kilmallock Library. All events take place from 10am to 1pm.

On Thursday, June 19, people in Cappamore will have an opportunity to share their climate project ideas in their local library, while on Friday June 20, the people in Foynes can visit their library. Finally on Thursday, June 26, a session will be on at Limerick City Library.

The Community Climate Action Programme directly follows on from the Council’s first Climate Action Week, which took place from April 28 to May 4.

This week aimed to display the work that individuals, communities and organisations across Limerick are doing to combat climate change, inspiring people to take small actions that can have a positive effect on our planet.

The week commenced with a talk by Dr. Anne Dolan, ‘Addressing climate change within the Irish Education Sector’.

Monday evening saw a pop-up gallery launch event in UL city Campus, displaying creations from Limerick Lace and a sculpture by artist Veronica Santorum. There were also Junk Kouture designs and climate related art projects from primary and secondary schools around Limerick.

Throughout the week, there was an Energy café, the “CWELL project: Community Energy Coaches” launch, a Community Climate Action information session.

Workshops introduced people to gardening, batch cooking and repairing of everyday objects to extend their life cycle.

The Dance, Write, Draw, Make event in Griston Bog saw young and old come together to connect with nature and discuss the importance of our natural world, as well as much more.
