RIP: Limerick deaths and funeral details, Friday, January 9, 2026

The death has occurred of Michael Allen.

Of Woodview Park and formerly of Hyde Road Prospect. Retired caretaker of Caherdavin Girls National School.

Peacefully at St John’s Hospital on January 8, 2026, in the presence of his devoted wife.

Michael will be sadly missed by his loving family, wife Kathleen, daughters Yvonne and Fiona, grandchildren Caoimhe, Chloe, Ethan, Hudson and Harlan, sons-in-law Greg and Evan, brothers Dominic and Brian, sisters Theresa, Ann and Mary, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, kind neighbours and many friends.

Rest in peace

Reposing at Griffin’s Funeral Home, John’s Gate, on Monday, January 12 from 5pm to 6:30pm. Arriving at St. Munchin’s Church, Clancy Strand on Tuesday, January 13 for reequiem Mass at 11am. Burial afterwards in Mount Saint Lawrence (Ext) Cemetery.

Predeceased by his brothers John-Joe, Jim and Pat. Of Lord Edward Court, and formerly of Claughaun Court, Garryowen. Ex-taxi base operator.

On January 8, 2026, suddenly, at his residence.

Pre-deceased by parents Sean and Rita.

Very deeply regretted by sons Brian and Darragh, daughter Saoirse and their mother Margaret, grandchildren Darragh, Eddie, LJ, Brian, Myles, Sam, Biddyanne, Freya, Rian and Caoilan, daughters-in-law Emily and Kathleen, brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, other relatives, friends and neighbours.

Reposing at Cross’s Funeral Home, Lower Gerald Griffin Street, Tuesday, January 13, from 3.30pm to 5pm.

Funeral will arrive at St. John’s Cathedral, Cathedral Place, Wednesday, January 14, for requiem Mass at 11am, funeral afterwards to Mount St. Oliver Cemetery.

The death has occurred of Catherine Ita Lenihan

Of Caherlevoy, Mountcollins. Passed away peacefully, aged 80 years, in the wonderful care of the nurses and staff at University Hospital Kerry, on Thursday, January 8, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Predeceased by her parents Michael and Margaret, and her Aunt Julia, sisters Julia Mai and Eila and brother David. Catherine is fondly remembered by her brother Danny, sister-in-law Bridget, brother-in-law Pat Halden, nephews and nieces Pat, Michael and John Daly, Patricia (Flavin) and Michael D. Lenihan, Micheál, John Paul and Brian Lenihan, Michael, Donna and Keith Halden, nieces-in-law, nephews-in-law, grandnieces, grandnephews and her friends, neighbours and former colleagues.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.

Reposing at Harnett’s Funeral Home, The Square, Abbeyfeale, V94 AK44 on Saturday, January 10 from 6pm until 8pm. Requiem Mass for Catherine will be celebrated in The Church of The Assumption, Mountcollins on Monday, January 12 at 2pm.

Interment afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

The death has occurred of Leo Walsh

Of Athlunkard Nursing Home. Died January 2, 2026, age 90 Years

Late of Rathkeale, Clanmaurice Avenue and Dooradoyle, and formerly of Cleary's Dublin and Shaw's Crescent Shopping Centre.

Suddenly but peacefully, in the loving care of staff at Athlunkard Nursing Home, Corbally.

Pre-deceased by his parents Mary and Joseph, brothers Joseph and Dermot and brother-in-law David.

Survived and remembered always by sisters Carmel and Della, nieces Caroline, Irene, Olive and Colette, nephews David and Aidan, sister-in-law Ann, brother-in-law Michael, grandnieces, grandnephews, extended family and friends.

Leo's funeral has taken place with immediate family present, burial of ashes at later date in his parents grave.

Leo's family wish to thank all the staff in Athlunkard Nursing Home for their wonderful care and attention to Leo for the last number of years, thanks also to Fr Eamon, Majella and staff in Cross's Funeral Home and the gravediggers.

Of Lisdeen, Kilkee, Clare, Killalee and Canada.

Suddenly, at University Hospital Limerick.

Sadly missed and dearly loved by her husband John Joe Lynch, her sons Richard and Eamonn Nolan, daughter-in-law Victoria, her adored grandchildren Tarabh and Ceili, cousins, extended family, neighbours and many friends.

May Josephine rest in peace.

Funeral will arrive on Sunday morning, January 11 to St Senan’s Church, Kilkee for requiem Mass at 11am.

The death has occurred of John O'Regan

Of Ardrine, Castlemahon.

On January 8, 2026.

Peacefully after a short illness at Milford Care Centre surrounded by his loving family.

John is predeceased by his father Tommy O'Regan.

John (JR) is sadly missed by his mother Noreen, and his loving daughter Shauna, her partner Brian White, and Grandson Nathan. He is fondly remembered by his relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends.

May His gentle soul rest in peace.

Reposing at Riedy's Funeral Home, Newcastle West on Sunday, January 11 from 6pm until 7.30pm.

Arriving at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Newcastle West on Sunday evening at 8.00 pm.

Requiem Mass for John (JR) will be celebrated on Monday, January 12 at 11.30am with a private cremation service afterwards at Shannon Crematorium.

Family flowers only please.
