Limerick man pleads guilty to driving his car at a member of An Garda Siochana

Prosecuting barrister Lily Buckley said the impacted garda will be canvassed for a victim impact statement
A LIMERICK man has appeared before the Circuit Court and pleaded guilty to driving his car at a member of An Garda Siochana.
Roger Ryan, aged 43, of Fairhill, Rathkeale, in County Limerick, came before Judge Mary Morrissey charged in relation to an incident which occurred on October 27, 2022. He is in custody on the matter.
The Circuit Court was informed that on this date, the defendant intentionally or recklessly engaged in conduct, namely by driving a car at a marked garda patrol vehicle. This, in turn, created a substantial risk of death or serious harm to a member of An Garda Siochana, who was present in the vehicle at this time.
Judge Morrissey heard that the offence took place at/near Fairhill in Rathkeale. The exact time is not yet known.
When the charge was put to the accused, Mr Ryan replied: “Guilty.”
Following the plea, the 43-year-old’s barrister, Aaron Desmond, told the court that his client is “doing well” during his time in custody and requested that a report be prepared by the governor of Limerick Prison.
Prosecuting barrister Lily Buckley said the injured party will be canvassed for a victim impact statement.
Upon hearing brief facts of the case, Judge Mary Morrissey remanded Mr Ryan in custody on the same terms.
She will pass sentence on November 17.
