A JURY has been selected for the trial of a Limerick secondary school student accused of having a large sum of cannabis in his possession.

The young man, who was 17-years-old at the time of the alleged offence, has pleaded not guilty to two charges, namely possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis with intent of sale/supply.

Prosecuting barrister John O’Sullivan informed the Circuit Court that in June of 2021, gardai were on patrol in the Castletroy area when they came across the student.

It is alleged that just before midnight on this date gardai found the accused with a bag in his possession and that just under 200 grams of cannabis was discovered inside.

The now 22-year-old is denying the offences and a list of 11 potential witnesses was submitted to Judge Colin Daly.

After brief facts of the case were outlined, a jury of six men and six women was impanelled.

The trial will begin this Thursday and is expected to conclude by the end of the week.
