GARDAI discovered a “substantial” amount of cocaine during a raid on a home in West Limerick at the beginning of the bank holiday weekend, Limerick Live has learned.

One man, aged in his 20s, has been arrested in connection with the seizure.

Following a query from Limerick Live, a garda spokesperson confirmed that officers searched a domestic residence in Newcastle West on Friday, May 1 shortly after 12.30pm.

“A quantity of suspected controlled drugs was seized,” said a garda spokesperson.

Gardai have not released the type of drugs found or the estimated street value for operational reasons. However, Limerick Live understands it is cocaine and is a "substantial" amount.

The garda spokesperson said: “An adult male, aged in his 20s, was arrested and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 in a garda station in the Limerick Division.

“The male has since been charged and bailed to appear before Court on a future date. Investigations are ongoing.”

There was a significant garda presence reported by locals in the Newcastle West area on Friday.
