GARDAI have launched an investigation after an Islamic Cultural Centre in Limerick was hit by an arson attack overnight.
In an incident described as "shocking" by local Fianna Fail councillor Azad Talukder, the fire service and the gardai attended the scene at around 1.30am this morning.
The Islamic Cultural Centre, which serves the local Muslim community who attend prayers and receive Quaran lessons, is located in Dooradoyle.

Three units of Limerick Fire and Rescue service were dispatched from the station at Mulgrave Street in the city centre.
They took around 40 minutes to extinguish the fire, with the scene then handed over to the gardai.
A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana confirmed they received a report of an incident of "criminal damage by fire" at the premises.
"No injuries have been reported at this time," they added.
Cllr Talukder, the only Muslim councillor on the local authority said: "It is very shocking for the whole community. Dooradoyle is normally very peaceful. When the Muslim community hears of this attack, they would feel very insecure. Luckily somebody was there when the fire alarm went off, otherwise it would have been a totally different story."
He said he was informed of the incident this Thursday at breakfast time.
"When you wake up in the morning and you hear some place was attacked because of their different beliefs. That's not Ireland," he added.
