Judge Patricia Harney wished Sinéad Leahy (pictured) a long, happy and prosperous career,
A TYPICAL busy Monday morning in Limerick District Court began with a formal welcome for a young solicitor, who the judge wryly contrasted with the usual “old stagers”.
Darach McCarthy, president of Limerick Solicitors Bar Association, welcomed new solicitor Sinéad Leahy to Court 6 in Limerick Courthouse on Mulgrave Street.
Mr McCarthy said Ms Leahy completed her Bachelor of Laws Degree in UL and is employed by a very prestigious office in Dermot G O’Donovan Solicitors.
“She did her traineeship there and is now working for them. She has been down in court with us quite a bit and is more than welcome.
“On behalf of the Limerick Bar Association, I would like to welcome Ms Leahy to Limerick District Court,” said Mr McCarthy.

Judge Patricia Harney, presiding, added her well wishes to Ms Leahy, who is from Tournafulla.
“It doesn't happen very often that we get to see a new face. Unfortunately, it tends to be, dare I say it, old stagers turning up like bad pennies again and again,” said Judge Harney with a smile.
The judge continued: “You are most welcome to Court 6. It's a very busy court and we have an awful lot to get through but we do manage to do it with great co-operation from everybody involved.”
Judge Harney said to Ms Leahy that she hopes she finds her time in the district court elucidating and entertaining from time to time but there will be “precious little of that most of the time”.
“You’re very, very welcome. I think we all remember the first time we dipped our toes in the water in a court.
“I understand that it is a big day for you. I wish you well and I hope you continue to have a long, happy and prosperous career,” concluded Judge Harney.
Ms Leahy thanked Judge Harney and Mr McCarthy for their kind words and with that the registrar called the first case on a very busy list.
