THE TRIAL of a 47-year old mother charged with attempting to murder her then eight-year-old daughter at temporary accommodation in County Clare is due to commence in Limerick on Monday.

In the case, the mother - who cannot be named to protect the identity of her daughter - is charged with attempting to murder her daughter at temporary accommodation in County Clare on September 27, 2022.

In the aftermath of the alleged attempted murder in September 2022 the young girl’s condition was described as “critical” after she was allegedly stabbed multiple times at her accommodation.

After the girl subsequently underwent emergency surgery at Crumlin Children’s Hospital in Dublin, a garda spokesman said at the time that she was “out of danger”.

At Ennis District Court in June 2023, Judge Alec Gabbett returned the woman for trial to the Central Criminal Court on the attempted murder charge after a two volume Book of Evidence was served on solicitor Tara Godfrey for the accused.
