GARDAÍ are investigating a spate of overnight burglaries in County Limerick, during which vehicles were stolen from outside homes in Adare and Murroe.

Sergeant Michelle O’Halloran, Crime Prevention Officer Henry Street Garda Station said:

"On the 14th of December, sometime between midnight and 9am, a male in his 50s in the Adare area reported that he woke to find items disturbed in his home. On checking further, he discovered that his car keys were missing, and his vehicle — a 2006 registered BMW X5 — had been taken from his driveway."

"The vehicle has since been recovered, and Gardaí in Rathkeale are investigating this incident."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Rathkeale Garda Station on 06963222 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.

Other similar incidents were also reported in the Murroe area.

Sgt O'Halloran stated: "On the 14th of December, between midnight and 11am, a woman in her 30s discovered that her 2012 red Volkswagen Polo, which had been parked outside overnight, was missing."

"On checking inside her home, she realised that the car keys had also been taken. This red Volkswagen Polo has not been recovered."

The local crime prevention officer continued:

"On the same night, another woman in her 30s in Murroe area reported that her 2015 silver Volkswagen Passat was stolen from outside her home at approximately half six in the morning."

"It’s believed that the suspects entered the house via an unlocked door, took the keys, and then took the vehicle. No other property was taken, and the vehicle has since been recovered."

Gardaí in Bruff are investigating both incidents and are appealing to anyone who may have information or noticed any suspicious activity in the area to come forward and contact them on 061 382940.

Sgt O'Halloran is also reminding homeowners to check all doors and windows, including front, back, patio, and double doors. "The most basic principle of security is controlling access to your home."

"Make sure your doors and windows are of good quality and lock securely. If locks are faulty, repair or replace them as soon as possible, or consider adding extra locks or bolts," added Sgt O'Halloran.

The crime prevention officer also advised homeowners to ensure their home and vehicle is secure. "Keep valuables out of sight, and avoid keeping large amounts of cash or jewellery at home."

"At night, turn on lights, use timer switches, and always remember to 'Lock Up and Light Up.'"
