‘Never click the link’: Limerick gardaí renew advice following phone scam

LIMERICK gardai are reminding locals to stay vigilant following a report of a phone scam.

Sergeant Michael Gallagher, Community Policing at Mayorstone Garda Station explained:

"A male attended a garda station after receiving a call from a female claiming to be from a mobile phone provider. She asked him to click a link on his phone. After the call, he realised money had been transferred out of his account."

Never click a link sent during an unsolicited call.

Legitimate companies will never ask you to download apps, click links or share banking details.

If in doubt, hang up and call the company back using an official number.

He also advised people to use trusted, reputable websites, never save card details on unfamiliar sites, keep devices updated with security patches, ensure the website address begins with https:// and use secure payment methods and avoid bank transfers to unknown sellers.
