Woman injured in second overnight arson attack in Limerick

A WOMAN was hospitalised in a second arson attack in the city overnight.

The incident in O’Malley park, Southill was reported to emergency services at 4.40am this Sunday morning. Three appliances from Limerick Fire and Rescue Service and gardai quickly responded.

A garda spokesperson said gardaí are investigating an incident of criminal damage by fire at a domestic residence in Southill, Limerick in the early hours of this morning, Sunday, October 20.

“A woman, aged in her 40s, was taken for treatment of injuries believed to be non-life threatening. No other injuries have been reported at this time,” said a garda spokesperson.

The scene is currently cordoned off for forensic examination.

“Enquiries are ongoing,” said a garda spokesperson. 

Firefighters returned to base just before 6am after putting out the blaze.

In the early hours of Friday morning, a car was set alight in an arson attack in nearby Carew Park, Southill. No injuries were reported.

Bomb disposal experts from the Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team responded to a request for assistance from An Garda Síochána in Carew Park.

Enquiries are ongoing.
