RETAILERS are being warned that counterfeit money may be in circulation, as it was spotted in one Limerick town.

On September 26, two youths walked into a takeaway in Abbeyfeale, ordered food and attempted to pay for it with a counterfeit €20.

“The premises owner was quick enough to recognise the fake note and Gardai were called, that note is out of circulation but there may be more,” Sergeant Ber Leetch of Henry Street garda station warned retailers.

“Retailers should at least have a pen for marking the notes to ensure they are legal tender,” Sgt Leetch said.
