Emil Barchesan appeared before Nenagh District Court this Monday

A ROMANIAN national have been granted bail after he appeared in court having been charged in relation to the discovery of an alleged imitation firearm on board a busy train.

Emil Barchesan,  aged 37, who has an address at 1 Clarinwood, Rathmore, county Kerry, appeared before a special sitting of Nenagh District Court this Monday after he was charged under the provisions of the Firearms Act.

The offence is alleged to have occurred on board a train near Templemore last Friday evening.

During the procedural hearing, there was no Garda objection to bail.

Judge Elizabeth MacGrath granted Mr Barchesan bail on a number of conditions, including that he surrender his travel documents and that he does not apply for any other travel documents.

Sergeant Thomas Hanrahan of Thurles garda station told the court that gardaí have no objection to him going to Romania for two weeks on holidays, providing that on his return he resides in Rathmore and signs on at Millstreet Garda Station once a week.

He is also to provide a phone contact and be contactable by the gardaí.

Judge MacGrath set bail in his own bond of €500, with an independent surety of €300 in cash to be lodged in the court.

She adjourned the matter to Thurles District Court in September.
