Court date for Limerick man found 'asleep' on windowsill

A MAN roused from his slumber on a windowsill was verbally abusive to gardai, Newcastle West Court heard.
Thomas Sexton, aged 27, of Dunquin, Knockane, Newcastle West pleaded guilty to engaging in threatening / abusive / insulting behaviour.
Inspector Gearoid Thompson said gardai received a report of a male asleep on the windowsill of a house on December 4, 2022.
Insp Thompson said when gardai woke Mr Sexton up he “became irate”,
“He engaged in abusive behaviour. He was arrested for his own safety. The language he used towards gardai was salient to say the least,” said Insp Thompson, who added that the defendant has one previous conviction for careless driving.
Mr Sexton, who represented himself, told Judge Carol Anne Coolican that he was in between shifts - the day shift and the night shift.
“I fell asleep. I was upset because it was 500 yards from my home and they took me half way across County Limerick,” said Mr Sexton.
Judge Coolican said she would strike the matter out if Mr Sexton paid €150 to the court poor box which he did.
