CREWS from Uisce Éireann will be arriving in Knockfierna near the village of Ballingarry in the coming weeks, bringing with them the promise of a more reliable water supply and improved water quality.

The works involve replacing 2.1 kilometres of old water mains prone to bursts with new modern pipes as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.

The works will take place in Knockfierna, Ballingarry, due to commence in mid-June and are expected to be completed by September. Once these works are complete, customers in this area will enjoy an improved water supply with less disruption.

To facilitate the safe delivery of the project and to minimise impact on the community, areas of work will be limited to short sections.

The section of works will take place near the Country Famine Walk, along the L-1209 The Commons, Ballingarry.

Traffic management will be in place during this time with a combination of an automated Traffic Light System as well as a Road Closure on the L-1209 The Commons, Ballingarry.

The road closure will be in effect from June 23 for a period of 4 weeks with a diversion route in place along the R518. Local and emergency traffic will always be maintained.

The works may require some short-term water supply interruptions, and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water interruptions.

Residents and businesses in the areas to benefit from the planned improvements have been notified directly.

Details of any supply interruptions associated with this project will be updated regularly on the Water Supply Updates section of the Uisce Éireann website. Customers can phone Uisce Éireann on 1800 278 278 with any questions about the project.

Uisce Éireann has launched a free text service, providing real-time updates for local issues. Customers can sign up with their Eircode and mobile number text updates.

Identifying and repairing leaks will help Uisce Éireann to achieve its 2030 goal of a national leakage rate of 25%. The national Leakage Reduction team has made great strides since 2018 when the leakage rate stood at 46%.
