A painting grant scheme has been announced for the three Municipal Districts of Newcastle West, Cappamore/Kilmallock and Adare/Rathkeale
A SHOP Front Minor Repairs and Paint Scheme for the three Municipal Districts of Newcastle West, Cappamore/Kilmallock and Adare/Rathkeale has been launched by Limerick City and County Council.
€15,000 is being made available to each of the three districts, totalling €45,000 in 2025.
Mayor of Limerick, John Moran has allocated the funding from his 2025 Mayoral Fund, in line with a commitment in the More for Limerick Mayoral Programme 2024-2029 to provide investment support for the revitalisation of retailer shopfronts.
The grant may be used to improve the external front facing facade of actively trading commercial shops only, and/or for undertaking minor repair works. Sign painting is allowable on shop frontage only.

The maximum grant is €1,000 per unit or 50% of the cost of the works, whichever is the lesser.
Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, commented: “The More for Limerick programme promises to champion initiatives that visibly and meaningfully take action in improving our towns and villages. I’m grateful to our team for bringing that commitment to life with this scheme, once funding from the Mayoral Fund was allocated. It’s about more than a lick of paint – it’s about pride in place, restoring our local character that encompasses our towns and village and supporting small businesses. Better public spaces lead to stronger communities and vibrant local economies.
He added: "This is another small step towards what we want to see across Limerick during my term. I look forward to seeing colour, character and confidence return to our streetscape. If the scheme is a success this year, why, we may even consider continuing to run it again. But don’t let that be an excuse to long finger the paint job. Do it this year under this scheme! Let’s continue delivering More for Limerick.”
The scheme is specifically aimed at shops trading in villages and town centres and must comply with the overall Shop Front Scheme of Limerick Council.
Applications from businesses must be made by Friday, June 27 2025 to the relevant local Municipal District Office. More information on the scheme is available here.
