Members of Castleconnell Boat Club women’s rowing team in action
CURRENT row boats at Castleconnell Boat Club are “hindering” their ability to provide young rowers with the equipment they need to excel, according to the group which has launched a fundraiser.
Castleconnell provides the prime location for a rowing/boating club for those in Limerick, Clare and north Tipperary, with the River Shannon on its doorstep.
The group has a current goal of €100,000, and donations received will “directly impact the lives of our athletes, providing them with the opportunity to pursue their rowing aspirations” according to a spokesperson for the boat club.
“Our junior and masters rowing programmes have a proud history of success, consistently producing talented athletes who have gone on to compete at national and international levels. However, our ageing fleet of rowing boats is in dire need of replacement, hindering our ability to provide our young rowers in particular with the equipment they need to excel,” a spokesperson for the group said on a GoFundMe page set up for the fundraiser.
With your support, we can provide our rowers with access to the latest rowing equipment, ensuring they are well-prepared for competitions and can compete equally,” they added.
The money will also be used to ensure the current fleet of boats is maintained and repaired.
“Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a significant difference in the lives of our rowers,” the spokesperson said.
The group is also open to taking donations in the form of boats or other rowing equipment.
“We are exceptionally lucky to have an amazing stretch of river that our club calls home and hosts many events. We are dedicated to fostering a passion for rowing among our junior and masters athletes alike. We believe that rowing instils valuable life lessons, promoting teamwork, discipline, and a strong work ethic while nurturing physical and mental well-being,” the spokesperson said.
To date, more than €10,000 has been raised and those who wish to donate to the fundraiser can do so here.
