Two crucial Limerick derbies among weekend All-Ireland League rugby fixtures

ENERGIA All-Ireland League actions returns this week after a three-week break over the Christmas and New Year's period.

The weekend fixture list includes two Limerick derbies in Division 2A and Division 2C.

In Division 1A, Young Munster will be hoping to pick up where they left off before the break when they dismantled Nenagh Ormond at Tom Clifford Park in a 57-10 win.

The Limerick side will be hoping to replicate that performance when they travel to New Ormond Park to face Nenagh in the reverse fixture this Saturday.

Young Munster currently sit sixth in the table on 23 points ahead of Saturday's clash, kick-off is at 2.30pm.

In Division 1B, Garryowen will be looking to get back to winning ways and avenge their defeat to Highfield before the Christmas break.

The Limerick side fell to a heavy 33-19 defeat in Woodleigh Park, but home advantage could prove crucial for the Limerick side this time around.

Garryowen currently sit sixth in the table on 19 points and kick-off in Dooradoyle is also at 2.30pm on Saturday.

In Division 2A, there will be an all Limerick affair when Old Crescent and Shannon do battle in Takumi Park on Friday night at 7.30pm.

The sides met in the final game before Christmas at Thomond Park.

Shannon defeated their Limerick rivals 27-12, securing a bonus point win in the process.

That win put Shannon third in the table on 26 points, while Old Crescent sit in seventh position, level on points with Ballymena (16).

In Division 2B, UL-Bohemian will be looking to continue their impressive form when they travel to Alcast Park to face Enniscorthy on Saturday.

UL-Bohs finished 2025 in emphatic fashion, dispatching their Wexford opponents on a scoreline of 31-17 at the University of Limerick's North Campus.

The Limerick side will be hoping to replicate that performance when they travel to the South East on Saturday, kick-off is at 2.30pm.

In Division 2C, there will be yet another Limerick derby when Thomond and Bruff lock horns at Liam Fitzgerald Park on Saturday at 2.30pm.

The pair met before the Christmas break with Thomond recording a narrow three point win over their local rivals, 20-17.
That win brought Thomond to second spot in the table behind Clonmel.

The Limerick city side also had a game in hand to play over the New Year's break, which they won comfortably over Midleton, 31-17.

The sides were tied 17-17 at the end of an entertaining opening half. The home side had trailed 3-14 at one stage, but hit back through two first half tries from Colin Slater and the first of Birrane's three five-pointers.

Thomond added 14 unanswered points to their tally in the second half, while succeeding in keeping Midleton scoreless.

That 14-point win powered Thomond back to the top of the Division 2C table on 36 points, two points ahead of Clonmel in second place.

Bruff currently sit sixth in the table on 21 points.
