Two Limerick clubs target Munster Senior Cup final places

WITH a break in energia All-Ireland League action this weekend, the semi-finals of the Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Challenge Cup will dominate action for a number of senior Limerick clubs.

The first of the semi-finals takes place this Thursday evening, February 20 when Limerick side Old Crescent host Clonmel at Takumi Park, 8pm kick-off.

Old Crescent progressed to the semi-finals after winning Group Four, thanks to wins over Dolphin RFC and Midleton RFC.

While Old Crescent sit in seventh place in Division 2A of the All-Ireland League their semi-final opponents occupy fourth spot in Division 2B.

The second Munster Senior Cup semi-final takes place this Friday night, February 21 when Young Munster entertain Nenagh Ormond at Clifford Park, 8pm kick-off.

The game is a in a repeat of the dramatic 2023 Munster Senior Cup final. Munsters’ completed an historic three-in-a-row of Munster Senior Cup wins in the most dramatic fashion as Conor Hayes' penalty goal with the last kick of the game earned a 27-24 victory over the Tipperary side at Thomond Park.

Nenagh had led the final 24-10 with a little more than 10 minutes of the game remaining.

Meanwhile, the All-Ireland League will resume on Saturday, March 1. In Division 1A, Young Munster are away to Ballynahinch, while relegation-threatened Garryowen host St Mary's College at Dooradoyle.

In Division 1B, another relegation threatened Limerick side, Shannon host UCC at Thomond Park, while the 2A action will see Old Crescent entertain Galway Corinthians at Takumi Park on March 1.

In Division 2B, UL-Bohemian host Clogher Valley at Annacotty at 1.30pm, while in 2C, Bruff are at home to Ballyclare.
