Rocky O'Shea, Mayor John Moran and I attending the Sarsfield statute restoration ceremony
AS PART of the Wild Geese Festival that took place in our beautiful city, I attended the official ceremony for the continued improvements of the Patrick Sarsfield monument.
Standing proud outside St John Cathedral the statue stands as a proud beacon of our city's rich history.
The ceremony was attended by Mayor John Moran and the Ambassador of France H.E. Céline Place. The pair lay down wreaths in front of the Patrick Sarsfield statue during the ceremony to mark the unveiling of further improvement works on the monument.

So much work went into the restoration of the statue by many wonderful organisations. Garryowen's Residents Association gave such a huge hand with the thorough cleaning of the statue pedestal. They were joined in their efforts by the fabulous local youth organisations.
The area surrounding was a field of colour with Matt Kennedy’s green thumb. Planting flowers that had been sponsored by the wonderful Curraghchase Garden Centre.
During the ceremony I was delighted to see the wonderful Curraghgower Singers, who performed a fabulous rendition of the Marseillaise, the French national anthem and Amhrán na bhFiann, Ireland’s national anthem.
The continued works on the monument from the various organisations and the wider communities of Limerick, give me so much joy for the future of my beloved city!
