NEWCASTLE WEST and Monaleen battle it out for the Limerick Senior Camogie Championship title on Saturday afternoon in Ballyagran at 4pm.

‘The Magpies’ are bidding to complete an historic three in-a-row for the West Limerick club after winning the championship in both 2023 and 2024.Monaleen are in their first ever Limerick senior camogie championship final this weekend.

Limerick ladies footballers Roisin Ambrose, Grace Lee, Yvonne Lee, Karen O'Leary, Ellie Woulfe, Iris Kennelly, Deborah Murphy and Rebecca Delee are all part of the Newcastle West side.Meanwhile, Limerick camogie players Caoimhe Lyons, Aoife Nelligan, Emily O'Halloran and Laura Southern form part of a strong spine for the Castletroy-based club.

Newcastle West remain unbeaten throughout this year's championship and manager Mike Quaid doesn't believe there is an extra pressure on the West Limerick side going in as county champions.

“The only pressure is on ourselves and on our own expectations and what we believe we can achieve. This is a very experienced panel, a lot of experience throughout the panel, I wouldn't say being county champions has carried any weight on us,” Mike Quaid told Leader Sport.

Monaleen manager Tim McGrath said his side will be treating the county final like any other game.

“It's still just another match, you really have to keep that to the forefront of the players’ minds. Granted it's a final you still have to do the work you have done in the previous matches. And just replicate it on the day and hope that everything comes together,” added McGrath.

Last year Monaleen defeated Crecora in the relegation final and their rise has been impressive which has seen them go all the way to reach the county final.

“I can only speak for this year now because obviously I wasn't there last year. The one thing that I can say is the girls have bought into everything. They have applied themselves to everything that has been asked from them. The talent was there, it was just about giving them that confidence.”

Newcastle West manager Mike Quaid feels his side have improvements to make ahead of the county final.

“We wouldn't be fully happy with a lot of stuff we've done. We are unbeaten throughout the championship so we are obviously doing something right. We are trying to keep the panel fresh the whole time, we have new players coming in and out, we are trying to improve all the time.”
