Senior status on the line as Limerick play Antrim in All-Ireland Camogie Championship

Limerick face Antrim this Saturday June 29 at 4pm in Mick Neville, Rathkeale

Must-win tie for Limerick camogie this weekend against Antrim

LIMERICK face into a must-win final round tie with Antrim this Saturday (4pm) in the All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship.

The two sides will arrive at Mick Neville Park on June 29 without a win after four rounds of the championship.

Only a victory will ensure Limerick avoid relegation down to intermediate ranks.

Speaking after last Saturday's 33-point loss to Tipperary, Limerick manager Joe Quaid has warned his players “we've no God given right to beat Antrim.”

“There's no doubt, ourselves and Antim are at the same level because we are coming in with no match won either. This is going to be a battle until the end. We've no God given right to beat Antrim. I don't think we've beaten any northern team in the last few years at any level.”

Quaid is expecting a big reaction from his team.

“We'll prepare well during the week. They're off until Tuesday and they'll get a good recovery session on Tuesday night. I know them girls, they're our fierce proud girls. They're going to come all guns blazing at 4 o'clock next Saturday,” said Quaid.

Home advantage is vital according to the manager.

“I wouldn't say everything will go right for us but once more than 50 per cent of it does and we get the win. We played Antrim in the league and it was home fixture for them. It's nice the girls like playing here. We train here so we like to make this our home. I just see a couple coming off there with the arms around each other, they're a resilient bunch.

“The way I'll be pitching this, we've an Intermediate championship final next Saturday at 4 o'clock. The result whether you win the Intermediate or win your relegation play-off. This is a final you win your final you play senior the following year.”

Limerick will be looking for a big improvement in their attack with the Shannonsiders only managing to register one point from play against Tipperary.

Elsewhere, in the All-Ireland Premier Junior Camogie Championship, Limerick travel to play Cavan in Crosserlough at 2pm.

The sides will fight it out for a spot in the knockout stages of this year’s championship. Cavan currently sit in third spot on the table, with Limerick following closely behind on three points. Limerick will have to pick themselves up following their recent defeats. Cavan will be looking for a repeat of their recent narrow win against Roscommon, which would be enough to see them through.
