LIMERICK Junior camogie side have registered their first victory in the Glen Dimplex All Ireland Premier Junior Championship against Mayo winning 3-20 to 0-2 in Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale this Saturday afternoon.
They now face Roscommon at home next weekend in their round two fixture of the All-Ireland campaign.
The Limerick Premier Junior side started the game at a blazing pace with a fabulous long-range point from Valerie Shanahan. Scores came thick and fast for the side after that opening effort as Mayo struggled to get up to the pace of the game.
Points from Carla Griffin, Amy Burke and Muireann Leahy before Leahy found the back of the Mayo net leaving Limerick 1-3 to no score after 13 minutes of play.
Mayo finally got their first score of the game from a Lilian Keane free 17 minutes into the first-half from the 65-yard line ending their scoring drought, one more point from Brona Joyce was Mayo's only two scores in the opening 30 minutes as Limerick pushed on with three points from full-forward Noelle Curtin to end the half with Limerick 1-8 to 0-2 ahead at the break.
Things did not improve for the visiting side in the second-half as Limerick turned on the after burners scoring nine points from play.
The sliothar remained with Limerick for the entire 30 minutes with Mayo unable to score anything. Scores came from Amy Burke, Carla Griffin and Kate Feasey for Limerick. The game was firmly in Limerick's favour before goals from Ann Kennedy and Noelle Curtin finished the game off totally to give the home side a 3-20 to 0-2 win.
