A PODCAST co-created by a businesswoman from Castleconnell has been nominated for an award.

Career coach Valerie O’Hanlon has joined former broadcaster Trish Taylor Thompson, of Tipperary, on the airwaves for the broadcast, entitled Life is What you Make It.

The goal of the series is to change the conversation around ageing.

Now, it has been shortlisted as just one of four finalists nationally in the Communication and Information category of the Age Friendly Ireland Recognition and Achievement Awards.

The podcast was created to challenge outdated stereotypes about ageing and to encourage people to embrace life after 50 with optimism, curiosity and confidence.

Since its launch earlier this year, more than 2,000 people have downloaded the show in just 16 weeks.

Valerie said: “We started the podcast because we felt there was a gap in the conversation. There are plenty of discussions about retirement planning and healthcare, but very few that celebrate the opportunities that come with getting older. We wanted to create conversations that leave people feeling hopeful, encouraged, excited and joyful about what lies ahead."

Trish added: “We've been overwhelmed by the response. One listener told us the podcast inspired them to 'get out and do more things', while another described it as 'a real tonic'. Those comments tell us we're creating something people genuinely value."

The Age Friendly Ireland Communication and Information Awards recognise initiatives that improve access to clear, meaningful information, acknowledging that communication plays a vital role in supporting health, wellbeing, social connection and financial security as we age.

Rather than focusing on decline or limitation, the duo use honest, humorous conversations to explore topics including confidence, creativity, friendship, purpose, careers, trying new things and making the most of life's next chapter.

The podcast is available to listen to via Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and on Scariff Bay Community Radio.

New episodes drop on Saturday and Sunday.

The competition’s judging panel visited Valerie and Trish this week.

It will be in October where the winners are announced at the national final, which takes place in Limerick.
