LIMERICK business owners are being urged to join an alliance of companies which are committed to creating inclusive workspace for those with disabilities.

The Rehab group, a charity which supports people with disabilities and others who are marginalised, has received support from more than 75 different companies for its More than a Job campaign.

In this number are the HSE, Siptu plus Cook Medical in Plassey and Chadwicks at Ballysimon.

These organisations have committed themselves to creating more inclusive, supportive workplaces for people with disabilities, where employment goes beyond a salary.

By signing up, these firms are pledging to not only offer competitive salaries but also a commitment to providing flexible, inclusive workplaces for people with disabilities.

The project was developed to provide support to disabled people who find themselves locked out of the jobs market.

Finbarr Murray, the interim chief executive of Rehab Group said: “Ireland has one of the lowest employment rates for people with disabilities in Europe, we want to change that. We are delighted to see so many organisations, including one of the country’s biggest employers, the HSE, supporting this important cause.”

The campaign kicked off on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities last month.

“With the campaign continuing to grow, businesses and organisations of all sizes are being invited to get involved. Whether you're a major corporate, a local retailer or a community-based organisation, there’s an open invitation for you to sign up and be part of a movement that’s about making work more meaningful for everyone,” added Mr Murray.

“We believe businesses have a significant role in shaping the lives of their employees. By joining More Than a Job, companies not only help create an inclusive work environment but also make a lasting positive impact on their communities.”
