A MAJOR energy summit held in the city centre highlighted the key role Limerick and the region can play in Ireland’s renewable future.
Verizon’s new offices in Henry Street played host to the event, organised by Limerick Chamber.
The Energy on the Estuary event carried the theme of: From Port to Power: Unlocking the Mid-West’s Energy Potential.
The event explored what role the region can do in Ireland’s clean energy transition.
Representatives from the Departments of Environment, Enterprise, and Transport, and the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council were present on the day.
Among the local firms taking part were engineering company H&MV which is based in Castletroy.
There were experts brought in from Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, and Scotland.
They shared best practices in offshore energy collaboration and green port development.
The summit was officially opened by Clare TD Minister Timmy Dooley, a junior minister at the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment.
Chamber president Mairead Connolly said: “Energy on the Estuary has become the pulse point for Ireland’s renewable future. The Mid-West is not just part of the national conversation - it is where the future of energy generation, innovation, and sustainability will be built.”
Chamber chief executive Michelle Gallagher added: “From policymakers to investors, the dialogue was about action. The Mid-West’s potential as an energy powerhouse is clear, and our role as a Chamber is to ensure the region’s voice is heard at the highest levels.”
