FORMER Limerick Leader editor Alan English is to address the summer business lunch of Limerick Civic Trust next week.

The heritage group will host the event at No 1 Pery Square Hotel in the city centre, on Thursday, June 26 from 12.30pm.

He began his journalism career in the 1980s at the Limerick Leader, before moving to take on a number of different roles at newspapers in Britain, notably The Sunday Times in London and the Western Morning News in Plymouth, south-west England.

In 2020, he succeeded Cormac Bourke as editor of the Sunday Independent, a role which he stepped down from earlier this year.

A graduate of University of Limerick, he is also the author of five best-selling rugby books, including the autobiographies of Paul O’Connell and Brian O’Driscoll.

He is the keynote speaker at one of Limerick Civic Trust’s most significant fundraisers.

A self-funding charity, the Trust initiates and undertakes a programme of projects for the general improvements of Limerick’s environment in conjunction with local authorities, state agencies and all the sectors of Limerick’s commercial, professional, industrial and community life.

Tickets remain on sale for the business lunch.
