Shannon Airport has confirmed it is to close from 6pm this Thursday
SHANNON Airport is to close from 6pm this Thursday as blizzard-like conditions are set to hit the region over the next 24 hours.
While crews at Shannon have been working to keep the airport open, a large number of flights have been cancelled throughout the day as the bad weather takes its toll.
“Due to full flight cancellations by our scheduled carriers, and in light of the red weather alert for the area, Shannon Airport has decided to close the airport from 6 O’clock this evening. The airport will reopen, weather permitting, at 5am on Saturday,” said a spokesperson.

Due to full flight cancellations by our scheduled carriers, and in light of the Red weather alert, Shannon has decided to close the airport from 18:00 this evening. The airport will reopen, weather permitting, at 05:00 am on Saturday 3rd March.
“Shannon Airport remains fully operational as of now (3pm), with a number of scheduled flights taking off, due to the efforts of airport staff working through the night in challenging conditions to keep the runway operational. However, a number of airlines, including Aer Lingus and Ryanair, have now made the decision to cancel services in the interest of safety,” added the spokesperson.
Intending passengers intending to fly from, or travel to, Shannon Airport on Saturday are advised to contact their relevant airline or check their website before travelling.
