Limerick basketball clubs gear up for National Cup opening weekend

TWO Limerick basketball teams will get their National Cup journeys underway this weekend with Limerick Sport Eagles and Limerick Celtics. 

Both Limerick Sport Huskies and Limerick Celtics ladies team have received a bye in the first round of fixtures and will meet each other in their second derby game of the year in the second round of the cup. 

This Saturday Limerick Sport Eagles will meet Ulster University in the first round of the Presidents' National Cup in St Munchins at 2pm. 

Elsewhere Limerick Celtics will be on the road away to Joels Dublin Lions which tips-off at 7:30pm. 

In last weekends National League fixtures Limerick Celtics women had an incredibly exciting over-time win over Oblate Dynamos, 101-98, with Stephanie McBride and Shelby Harmeyer with 31 points each. 

Limerick Sport Eagles had a disappointing loss to Scotts Lakers Killarney at home over the weekend with a 81-72 defeat. Ajay Ryan Walsh impressed with 13 points after returning from a pre-season injury. 

Limerick Celtics men's side produced an impressive 96-66 victory over Killarney Cougars to keep their unbeaten streak alive.
