Baby sister christened at Limerick toddler’s funeral

A Mass of the Angels was held in St Mary’s Church, Rathkeale, before two-year-old Peter Mulcaire was laid to rest
A LOVEABLE rogue who was his Mommy's sunshine and his Daddy's pride is how little Peter Mulcaire was remembered at the Mass of the Angels this Wednesday morning in Rathkeale.
In a touching moment, Peter's baby sister Delilah was also baptised at the funeral Mass, as the family wanted young Peter to be with them for the occasion.
Two-year-old Peter Mulcaire died after being struck by a vehicle near his home in Abbey Court, Rathkeale on Saturday last.
Fr Eamonn Fitzgibbon spoke of how Peter had just started pre-school the week before and was the “life and soul of the classroom.”
Fr Fitzgibbon spoke of how Peter left an impression on everyone and how he “had a smile that would brighten up any room.”
“He was a ray of sunshine, he was full of fun, full of mischief - a loveable rogue,” Fr Fitzgibbon said.
Symbols to represent Peter’s young life - a buggy, a schoolbag, bridal and rope, and chocolate were among the gifts offered by family members.
Peter’s favourite book was a Peter Rabbit book about starting school, which little Peter saw himself in.
Peter loved playing and was full of fun and on his first day of pre-school he was brought in by his older brother Jim who was starting Junior Infants.
Staff from the neighbouring St Anne’s Primary School formed a guard of honour before the Mass.
T-shirts with Peter's photo and ‘RIP Baby Peter’ with’ Forever 2’ on the back, were worn by many mourners.
Among the songs during the Mass, were You Are My Sunshine and Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, while mascot characters of Peppa Pig, Chase and Marshall from Paw Patrol, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Mario and a teddy bear sat at the front of the church, as a nod to Peter's youth and love of cartoons.
A song written especially for Peter was played at the end of the Mass of the Angels.
The vehicle involved in the collision which claimed Peter’s life failed to remain at the scene and a garda investigation is ongoing.
Peter is deeply mourned and forever loved by his parents Kerrie and James, loving brother Jim, baby sister Delilah, grandparents, great-grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins and extended Harty and Mulcaire families.
May Peter rest in peace.
