Limerick Athletics - Weekly News Update

Masters and Uneven Ages County Cross Country:

DAY 3 of the county cross country season took place in Newcastle West last weekend.

The first race of the day was the master women and the O65 men. Sinead McDermott (Dooneen AC) took the title in the women's race followed closely by Susan Murnane (Limerick AC) and Val Sheehy (West Limerick AC).

West Limerick AC won the O35 women’s team title. The men's O65 race was won by Tony McMahon (Kilmallock AC). Richard Lenigan and Seamus Cawley (West Limerick AC) took second and third respectively. It was a West Limerick AC one-two in the master men’s race with Karl Lenihan holding off Declan Guina to take the win.

Sean Quirke (Bilboa AC) rounded out the podium in third. Limerick AC won the O35 team prize, with West Limerick AC in second and Dooneen AC in third. West Limerick won the O45 team prize. Patrick Mulchay (West Limerick AC) won the boys U19 race.

The girl’s U9 was the first juvenile race of the day. The race was won by Caoimhe Burke (Limerick AC). Lauren Brouder (West Limerick AC) took silver while Aoife Coleman (Kilmallock AC) got up for bronze. The team race went the way of Limerick AC, followed by West Limerick AC and Dooneen AC.

Eoghan Collin (West Limerick AC) took the win in the U9 boy's race. Rian Noonan (Limerick AC) won silver and Noah Alfred (Dooneen AC) won bronze. Limerick AC took the team title, with Dooneen AC in second and West Limerick AC in third.

It was a Limerick AC one-two-three in the girl’s U11 race, in what was the biggest race of the day. Tara Considine took the win followed by Mabel Anderson and Ciardha Ryan. Limerick AC won the team race comprehensively with Dooneen AC getting second just ahead of West Limerick AC. Cillian Power (Limerick AC) won the boy’s U11 race with clubmate Conor Noonan claiming second, and Jack Downes (West Limerick AC) taking 3rd place. Limerick AC won the team title with Dooneen AC claiming second place.

The girl’s U13 race was won by Crea Moore (Limerick AC) from Alana Ryan (Limerick AC) and Nessa Halpin Colclough in third. West Limerick took the team title by two points ahead of Limerick AC and Dooneen AC in third.

In the U13 boy’s race Conal Redmond and Rian Murphy led a Limerick AC one-two with Luke Hayes (Doneen AC) finishing third.

Eva McMahon led a Dooneen AC one-two-three in the girl’s U15 race with Olivia Lynch and Saoirse Eades Christian taking second and third respectively. The boy’s U15 race was won by Darragh Whealan (Limerick AC) ahead of teammate Rian Kiely Keoghan and Sean Coleman (Dooneen AC) in third. Limerick AC won the team race with Dooneen AC in second.

The U17 girl’s race was once again a Dooneen AC one-two-three led home by Ella Grace Osborne from, Olivia and Jennifer Moloney. Ruadhan Crowley (Dooneen AC) won the boy’s U17 race with Darragh Collins taking silver.

All-Ireland School's Combined Events:

Aine Frawley (St Marys AC) finished 5th in the Intermediate Girls combined events that took place in Athlone.

Competing for her school St Mary’s Charleville the Limerick woman was right in contention throughout the day putting up strong performances in the high jump and short hurdles ultimately just missing out on the podium places.
