CHARLEVILLE HALF MARATHON
THE previous wet and windy weather broke and conditions were in the end somewhat benign for the 15th staging of this major event in the Munster Athletics calendar. David McGlynn, of West Waterford, was the winner in 1:05:43, more than a minute ahead of Liam Aldridge in 1:06:52.
Irish International John Travers, of Donore Harriers, was third in 1:07:12. Declan Guina was first Limerickman in 11th place in
a time of 1:11:53. Karl Lenihan was 29th in 1:15:00. Other times included John Kinsella 31 st in 1:15:18, Mpho Chauke (Dooneen) 1:15:57, Cillian Higgins 1:17:12, the legendary Joe Chawke in 1:35:46, Gerry Prendergast (An Bru) 1:37:24.
Nineteen-year-old Ava Crean of the ‘Back2Boston Project’ was a commanding winner of the Women’s crown in 1:15:21 and claimed the E1150 first prize. She was followed in second by Dee Grady of Ennis Track 1:16:54, Alex Murphy of UCD took the ‘Bronze Medal’ in 1:19:21.
First Limerick woman was Dooneen’s Shona Keane in eighth overall and first F40 in 1:23:51. Other times included Maria Maher
1:33:36,, Clare Coleman 1:27:58, Eileen Reeves 2:00:48. Kate Murray 1:40:10, Gillian O’Regan 1:40:05, Pamela Kirby 1:33:29, Eilis Hennessey (An Bru) 2:10:24.
Kilmallock were represented amongst others by the quartet of John Paul McCarthy (1:30:36) Donie Dwane (1:34:16) Tony McMahon (1:39:37 and 3rd M65) and Liz Leonard (2:06:54 and sixth F60) John O’Sullivan was the sole Kilfinane rep 1:48:37 Gerry Prendergast 1:37:24 and Eilis Hennessey 2:10:24 ran for An Bru, For Bilboa Avril Kelly (1:49:44), Barry O’Brien (1:59:59), Mary Cosgrave (2:11:37)
Dooneen through Shona Keane, Clare Coleman, Mpho Chauke, Cillian Higgins , Kieran O’Brien and Liz Wilmot on 301 points were the 3 rd placed team with West Limerick seventh on 475pts.
Well done to North Cork AC who were excellent hosts and also Kilmallock who assisted with the event which spans Cork and Limerick.
AROUND THE COUNTRY
West Limerick’s Nora Keogh was second F50 in a time of 56:40. Clubmate Derek Mackessy completed his 400th Marathon on Sunday in Kilkenny, a significant Milestone, with his first being the Dublin Marathon in 2007.
Padraig O'Donnell (W.L) was fifth in the final race of the 3 in the final race of the An Riocht 5K series in Castleisland.
Lahinch Half-Marathon and 6 Mile:
Aaron Gallagher of Limerick AC was 7 th overall in 1:27:51. Pauline Portley (Dooneen) 1:54:28, Kieran Edwards (unattached) 1:57:00.
In the 6 Mile race West Limerick’s Michael O'Leary finished 4th in a time of 36:55, Also Kieran Edwards 1:57:00

The Limerick County Senior Cross Country and Juvenile Even Age Cross Country Championships take place on Sunday, September 28 at the Newcastle West Showgrounds.- Men 7000m, Women 5000m,
On November 9, West Limerick also host the Masters events with the distance as follows Women 4000m, Men 6000m.
