Limerick sprint hurdler Sarah Lavin competes in the semi-final of the European Athletics Championships this Saturday evening in Rome

LIMERICK sprint hurdler Sarah Lavin goes in search of her second major championship final of the year this Saturday evening at the European Athletics Championship in Rome.

Lisnagry hurdler Lavin competes in the semi-finals of the 100m hurdles from 7.12pm, Irish time.

Emerald AC athlete Lavin automatically advanced to the semi-final as one of the top 12 ranked athletes in the event and is sure to have eyes set on the evening’s medal decider (9.08pm).

Thirty year-old Lavin, who is coached by Noelle Morrissey, claimed an excellent fifth place finish in the final of the 60m hurdles at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow in March.

The ultra consistent sprint hurdler clocked 7.91 seconds in the final, just .01 of a second outside her personal best which she had set in the semi-finals.

Lisnagry woman Lavin Lavin is one of four Irish sprint athletes who automatically qualify for the semi-finals of the European Championships based on a top-12 ranking.

The Limerick woman recorded an impressive fifth place finish in the 100m hurdles final at the 2022 European Athletics Championships in Munich.

Rome 2024 will see 1500 athletes from 48 countries battle it out over the 6-day schedule, with a strong Irish representation across each day.
