Sarah Lavin competes in the 100m hurdles semi-finals at the European Athletics Championships this Saturday
LIMERICK Olympian Sarah Lavin will compete in the women's 100m hurdles at the European Athletics Championships in Rome this Saturday.
An exciting Irish team of over 40 athletes have arrived in the Italian capital ahead of the Championships which begin this Friday, June 6.
Two-time world indoor finalist Sarah Lavin, of Emerald AC, will have sights set on making her second major championship final of the season.
Thirty year-old Lavin, who is coached by Noelle Morrissey, claimed an excellent fifth place finish in the final of the 60m hurdles at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow in March.
The ultra consistent sprint hurdler clocked 7.91 seconds in the final, just .01 of a second outside her personal best which she had set in the semi-finals.
Lisnagry woman Lavin Lavin is one of four Irish sprint athletes who automatically qualify for the semi-finals of the European Championships based on a top-12 ranking.
Lavin will get her European Championships campaign underway in the semi-finals of the 100m hurdles from 7.12pm Irish time on Saturday.
Should the former Castletroy College student qualify for the final, that race will take place at 9.08pm on Saturday evening.
The Limerick woman recorded an impressive fifth place finish in the 100m hurdles final at the 2022 European Athletics Championships in Munich.
Rome 2024 will see 1500 athletes from 48 countries battle it out over the 6-day schedule, with a strong Irish representation across each day.
