STAFF and customers at a Limerick city café had an unexpected brush with Hollywood on Sunday when actor Woody Harrelson made an impromptu stop after the electric car he was travelling in ran low on power.

Woody and his driver pulled into the Green Yard Café and Punch’s Bar on New Street after his electric Porsche began to run short of battery.

His driver did a Google search for vegan restaurants in Limerick, and the Green Yard Café was the first one to appear.

A member of staff said the actor had been travelling from Northern Ireland and was en route to Killarney.

Woody, who is a long-time vegan and environmental campaigner, ordered a Buddha bowl and potatoes from the café’s menu. While there, he took time to chat with customers and staff, posing for photographs with around 25 to 30 people.

Woody follows a raw vegan diet and was named PETA's Sexiest Vegetarian in 2012 along with Jessica Chastain.

“He was good craic,” the staff member said. “He was happy enough to be on his way. He didn't mind going and taking the photos, he was always waving at everybody."

Before leaving, Woody went behind the bar, poured a pint, and began singing the theme song, 'Where Everybody Knows Your Name,’ from the television series Cheers.

He also signed the back of a receipt, saying, "Green Yard Cafe, love ya, Woody Harrelson."

Woody first became known for his role as bartender Woody Boyd on the sitcom Cheers, for which he won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
