Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson stars in The Office spin-off as first trailer is revealed

The first trailer for The Paper - the new spin-off of the hit series The Office - starring Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson, has been released ahead of its premiere next month.

The mockumentary-style sitcom will focus on Newspaper 'The Toledo Truth Teller' led by editor-in-chief Ned Sampson (Gleeson) who is desperate to return the paper to it's former glory.

Part of the Synopsis, which has been released by producers, reads: "The Toledo truth teller is a historic but declining midwestern paper trying to resurrect itself with volunteer reporters'. The series is presented as the latest documentary from crew which followed the Scranton Branch of Dunder Mifflin in the Emmy-award winning 'The Office'."

The crew will be illustrating the same misadventures and shenanigans in the workplace setting which made the comedy into a global sensation. The show will take place in the same universe as its predecessor. 

Oscar Nuñez will be the only cast member from The Office to reprise his original role in the new series, once again appearing as accountant Oscar Martinez.

Gleeson will be joined in the cast by Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus), Melvin Gregg (Nine Perfect Strangers), Chelsea Frei (The Moodys), Ramona Young (Santa Clarita Diet), comedian Alex Edelman, Gbemisola Ikumelo (A League of Their Own) and Tim Key (See How They Run). 

The series comes will be headed by Greg Daniels who was the developer of the hugely successful American Iteration of The Office who will be joined by Michael Koman who wrote for Late night with Conan O' Brien for seven years.

Daniels has confirmed that much of the crew that worked on the Office will return for the new series giving a strong foundation for the show to succeed.

The US Office was based on Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's massively popular British original. The pair will serve as executive producers in the new series. 'The hugely successful Office US, which ran on NBC in the United States from 2015-2013, made Steve Carrell and John Krasinski into household names. 

The Paper will premiere for Irish viewers on September 5 on Sky and Now TV, just one day after the American Premiere on Peacock. Two episodes will appear every Thursday after that until the finale on September 25.
