TG4’s compelling new GAA documentary is set to land on our screens over the Christmas season.
Hit the Wall explores the fascinating world of Gaelic Handball. Once a cornerstone of Irish sporting life, with alleys in almost every town and village, the sport now faces the challenge of survival.
While handball’s popularity has dwindled to just 10,000 active players and many alleys lie silent or abandoned, the passion and dedication of its top players burn as brightly as ever.
Contributors include Conor McElduff (Tyrone), Paul Brady (Cavan), Diarmuid Nash (Clare), Ollie Cassidy (Mayo), Caitríona Casey (Cork) and Paul Fitzpatrick (Cavan).
Hit the Wall follows these elite athletes through the highs and lows of their season, showcasing their unrelenting pursuit of excellence and the unique mental resilience required to compete at the highest level.
The documentary delves into their stories, uncovering what drives these players to chase glory in a sport some believe to be “dead.”
It is described as “an intimate look at the spirit of competition and the enduring love for a game rooted in Irish history”.
Hit the Wall will air on TG4 on Sunday, January 5 at 5:40pm.
