National: Gold post box celebrating Cillian Murphy's Oscar win unveiled near his childhood home

A gold-painted post box has been revealed near Cillian Murphy's childhood home in Cork.

An Post has transformed its customary green post box in Ballintemple, a stone's throw away from where the acclaimed actor spent his early years, and turned it to gold to commemorate his epic Oscar win.

Speaking on Desert Island Discs, Cillian agreed that letter writing is important, especially for actors who may want to put themselves forward to clinch a special role. "Take the time to handwrite a letter and post it," he stated as advice to fellow thespians.
