Eurovision: Tonight's TV programmes to get you in the mood for the 2023 song contest

It is officially Eurovision week as the world-famous song contest arrives in Liverpool for 2023.

The semi-finals take place this Tuesday, May 9 and Thursday, May 11 before the grand final is scheduled for this Saturday, May 13.

Ireland will be represented by Wild Youth in the first semi-final with their song 'We Are One'.

Before that, there are two pre-Eurovision programmes on the television tonight (May 8) to get you in the mood for this year's event.

Eurovision Welcomes the World - 6:30pm - BBC One

Rylan and Sunetra Sarker kick off Eurovision with highlights from this year's turquoise carpet and performances including Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Ukraine’s Jamala.

Eurovision Calling: Jason and Chelcee’s Ultimate Guide - 9pm - BBC One

Jason Manford and Chelcee Grimes explore the Eurovision Song Contest. It’s the world’s largest live music event, creates superstars and leaves an impact on the lives of millions.
