HEALTH

IN three years, admissions to St Joseph’s Hospital have gone up by more than 45%, according to figures revealed over the weekend.

Dr John Fennelly, chief psychiatrist said in 1972, they had 982 admissions: in 1975, this figure stood at 1,433.

"Our patient population in the hospital still averages somewhat less than 800 over the years,” he told the many who attended the annual prize-giving ceremony on the hospital.

"It does not seem to be going down or at least not dropping significantly,” he said.
