AN official announcement is expected later today unveiling details of the biggest development ever in the city – totalling €1 billion – the Limerick Leader has learned.
The proposed development – on land situated along the bank of the Shannon, between Barrington’s pier and Shannon Bridge – will consist of upmarket apartments, a boardwalk, retail units, offices and a marina.
The developers plan to drain the riverbank along the 25-acre stretch in order to facilitate construction of the site.
The consortium were due to meet this morning with City Council officials, including Tom Mackey and senior planning officials, in what is believed to be the first of a series of meetings to discuss the project. The area takes in a designated conservation area.
