OVER 300 athletes from 20 nations will descend on Limerick for the International Down Syndrome Swimming Championships this autumn, it was announced this week.
Athletes from countries as far flung as Taiwan, and India, will attend the event, which is being jointly hosted by Down Syndrome Limerick and the University of Limerick in Plassey’s state of the art 50 metre swimming pool, from September 3.
“The wonderful facilities at UL, both for the athletes and delegates, ensure that this will be a truly world class event worthy of the national and international world record holders who will complete,” said Michael McCormick, CEO of DSI.
“We are honoured to have been chosen to host the swimming championships, just as we will be honoured to host the World Down Syndrome Congress in 2009."
