TWO Limerick prisoners who were locked in a prison van and had to be rescued through the roof are set to make a claim for injuries they allegedly suffered.
The Limerick Leader learned today that the father and son, who are currently awaiting trial on a number of serious charges, intend taking legal action and will sue separate parties for negligence, breach of contract, breach of duty and personal injuries.
The pair from the city’s outskirts are currently facing charges including assault causing serious harm and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
In all, five criminals had to escape from a new prison security van which had just returned to the jail from Limerick Circuit Court last Wednesday. When the van was being opened, a key broke.
