Kilkenny top Racquetball rankings in Ireland in 18/19 season

Three Kilkenny men top Racquetball Rankings in Ireland

The 2018/2019 racquetball season was extremely successful for the Kilkenny Racquetball Club who play out of O’Loughlin Gaels Handball and Racquetball club. Mark Murphy, Ken Cottrell and Billy Walsh all finished number one player for their divisions making it the most successful year for Kilkenny in many years.

Mark Murphy from Muckalee finished the season as number one Irish player at the top level with five tournament victories out of nine including the Irish Open title throughout the year. The Muckalee man has grown in strength this year and is currently playing at his peak. Mark has represented Ireland numerous of times and is due to attend the European Racquetball Championships in Hamburg in September. He will have a serious chance at bringing home some silverware having previously won the European doubles title in 2013.

Ken Cottrell from Glenmore had a great season as well and finished as the number one over 40s player. Ken also won the National Doubles title this year. As a result, he has been selected to represent Ireland in doubles at the European Chamoionships.

Billy Walsh, who is older brother to the late ‘Ducksie’ Walsh, finished the season as number one over 50s player. He produced some excellent displays against some quality opposition.

Kilkenny Racquetball Club also won the Leinster Club Championships. Racquetball in Kilkenny is growing in strength and with clubs like Galmoy, Tullaroan, Clogh, Muckalee and Glenmore all doing great work.
