LIMERICK city celebrated the dawn of 2019 in traditional style with the annual ringing in of the new year at St Mary’s Cathedral on Monday night.
As is customary, the St Mary’s Prize Band was present and clad with instruments, ready to drum to a new beat as around 100 locals said farewell to an eventful 2018 and welcomed the last year before we enter the 2020s.
There were still jubilant scenes in the city centre, despite the fact that there was no new year’s fireworks display along the riverfront for the second year in a row.
However, that didn’t stop others from creating their own fireworks showcase as there were numerous sightings of colourful displays in the city and county within the first five minutes of 2019.
A number of pubs and nightclubs were said to be at full capacity with people celebrating the end of 2018.
