THOMOND Park is to host to the first ‘Limerick Masquerade Ball’ to raise money for the Carers Association.

It is hoped that up to 450 will attend the €150-per-head ball on September 21 which will raise money for the crucial work the Carers Association does in helping those looking after loved ones.

Supported by the HSE, the local authority and Thomond Park the event be preceded after a fair the previous day, in which businesses and voluntary agencies can sell their products.

Catherine Cox, the charity’s head of communications, said that as well as raising money, awareness of carers is key.

“Carers come from all walks of life. But what they all have in common is they provide that care out of love for the person,” she explained.

Money raised will help the association to provide carers with training, counselling and emotional support.

The ball was launched by O’Malley Park-born Young Carers of the Year Mandy and Sam Norris.
