Limerick singer-songwriter goes viral with new Christmas single

The musician is currently on tour, with a Limerick stop planned for this festive season

GEAROID McCarthy, an Irish folk singer from county Limerick, is going viral on TikTok for his new single, Home At Christmas Time.

The song, which was released on streaming platforms on Sunday, December 8, describes being "here in Limerick town" for Christmas.

Gearoid released the official music video on TikTok three days ago, where it has already gotten 128.3k views.

The Foynes native started off as a solo singer on RTE's Class Act, in which he came third, and then joined up with well-known west Limerick band Mad 4 Road a few years later.

He and the band came second on the All Ireland Talent Show on RTE in 2011.

Gearoid then moved on, playing a season in Lanzarote and Santa Ponsa, before spending two years playing music in the resident band in Raglan Road at Disney World in Orlando.

He then toured the world with Celtic Legends for another two years before bringing his own show back to Ireland in the pubs of Temple Bar.

He has since released many covers on streaming platforms, particularly covers of classic Irish folk songs, and has started sharing his own music, releasing his single Going out for One earlier this year.

Gearoid has developed a significant platform on social media, with over 350,000 followers on TikTok and over 150,000 on Facebook.

Currently on tour across the UK and Ireland, he will be playing a Christmas Special in the Woodlands Hotel, Adare on Friday, December 27.

Tickets cost €20 and are available on www.woodlands-hotel.ie.
