LIMERICK woman Aoife Joy began her 121-kilometre walk earlier this week to raise funds following her brother’s disappearance last year.

Aoife started her 20-day walk on Tuesday, November 3 - a year to the day since her brother Eoin Joy went missing - to fundraise for the volunteers who searched for him and for the family’s counselling.

Eoin Joy, who went missing from his home in Limerick City on November 3, 2025, has been described by his sister as “a deeply loved son, brother, husband and friend”, who is “worth so much more than the circumstances of his death”.

The GoFundMe page set up to raise funds for the cause by Aoife and the Joy family reads as follows:

“On the 3rd of November 2025, our lives changed forever when my brother, Eoin, tragically went missing from his home in Limerick City and took his own life at Loop Head, Co. Clare. Eoin was a deeply loved son, brother, husband and friend, and he is worth so much more than the circumstances of his death. His memory will live on in our hearts forever.

“During the darkest three weeks of our lives, a massive multi-organisation volunteer search began to bring Eoin home to us. While the search was eventually stood down without recovering Eoin's body, our family will forever be grateful for the tireless efforts, compassion, and expertise of every single volunteer who searched the seas.

“To give back, I am taking on a walking challenge. I will be walking 121 kilometres over 20 days starting on the 3rd of November—the exact distance Eoin travelled from Limerick to Clare, spanning the exact timeframe from the day he went missing to the day the search concluded.

“All funds raised will be split to support:

1. Coast Guard Units (Kilkee, Killaloe, and Ballybunion): Unpaid volunteers who handle coastal, inland water, and cliff rescues with incredible heart.

2. Kilkee Sub Aqua Club: A voluntary group who answered our social media plea and searched tirelessly.

3. Pieta House: Who have provided our family with vital suicide bereavement counselling as we try to piece our lives back together.

“If you can, please support my challenge by donating, sharing this post, or joining me for a walk. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Aoife Joy & the Joy Family.”

As of Wednesday, November 4, €5,944 has been raised towards the €8,000 goal.
